i see myself in you

May 26th, 2006

A friend brought up the concept of “niche attractiveness” yesterday. As in, you are attractive to a certain type, or “niche”, if you will, of person or personality. It’s interesting to think there’s a certain segment of the population you’re more attractive to. And it’s probably accurate, in a way. But it also makes it easy to chuck logic out the window –did you realize these two girls I dated both had long hair? Whoah. Weird.

Not that logic is all that useful a tool when it comes to personal lives.

Another way overexamine attractiveness is to break it down into qualities. Figure out what your qualities are and then match them up with demographics or personality types that may find them attractive. (It helps if you yourself like these qualities that you have.) This approach can be revealing but has a tendency to miss the big picture –maybe she’s attracted to you because you give her warm fuzzies in her tummy, for instance.

People are complex, yo.

Iris is coming to DC July 4th. Given that they’re pretty much on top of my would-like-to-see list, I will probably be missing the fireworks.
